Building sculptures out of the ever-evolving materials of living trees and plants brings focus to the world around me. I make constant parallels between the landscapes of Maine and what can be contained in a single vessel. In New England we wait with great anticipation through winter for some sign of life, we rejoice in signs of growth, change and the lengthening days.
The combinations of the materials I use represent many things throughout the life of the installation. In addition to the indigenous plant forms, that come and go with the seasons, I like to include plant forms that bloom all year. When we witness growth, change and beauty that evolve over time, or evoke an immediate response, it brings us closer to our own lives.
